Wasn't the H1N1 vaccine originally supposed to be 2 shots?

Are we getting the 'real thing'?

Is this being "watered down" because it is so hard to get and isn't being manufactured in the numbers expected?

Is this a sort of placebo to deal with the panic they have partially caused by advertising the flu too hard?

Will this thing really work?

My town is having a real pandemic here. Schools are in danger of shutting down because of all the absences... and the vaccine is just starting to trickle into town.

1. It was originally expected to require two (or three)

shots. Tests they ran to determine the antibody level post vaccination showed they only needed one for most individuals. I believe small children are the exception who still require two.

Children through 9 years of age should get two doses of vaccine, about a month apart. Older children and adults need only one dose.

3. we went thru that almost two weeks ago. was about a three week deal in town

30% of classes empty. into the third weeks it started leveling out, and things are back to normal in the town.

this is a flu vaccine - they have been making them the same way every year for years - its not rocket science! Its also a very good match for H1N1 because it has changed very little in the last 6 months.

They initially thought it would take 2 shots, tests proved differently.

which made no sense whatsoever to me, since it's just a flu shot, just like the seasonal ones, except that this one is specifically for H1N1 flu. Plus, of course, getting millions of people to show up for two shots the with the correct time spacing would be a logistical nightmare far beyond the difficulties of vaccinating several hundred million people with just one shot.

Twenty-one days after receiving a single 15-microgram dose of the vaccine, 92 percent of pregnant women showed a robust immune response, Dr. Anthony Fauci reported.

A larger, 30-microgram dose produced a strong response in 96 percent of pregnant women, said Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.

He said among children aged 6 months to 35 months just one in four had a strong immune response after 21 days. For those 3 years to 9 years old it was 55 percent. There was a sharp improvement after a second dose, he said, raising the fully protected rate to 100 percent in those 6 months to 35 months and 94 percent in those aged 3 years to 9 years.

Giving the larger 30 microgram dose gave no added benefit, Fauci said.
