Cop Killer Suspect Caught (and shot) just south of Seattle

note that the original incident also had a heroic female officer, a trainee who was riding with her trainer. car pulls up next to them, she senses danger, yells duck and a guy in the car starts shooting. she was wounded, her partner - the trainer, was killed. she managed to call the shooting off on the radio, jump out of her car WHILE WOUNDED and fire at the receding vehicle. note the vehicle BACKED up after shooting, suggesting it was trying to avoid the dash cam. the suspect caught today is also believed tied to the recent firebombing of several SPD cruisers, and threats left.

what is also unusual is that the suspect does NOT fit the usual profile of a cop killer. in my entire career i have never heard of anybody shooting a cop who was not already a felon (multiple times over).

this guy has no real record of crime whatsoever.

he also wrote some very interesting papers, such as one exhorting jury nullification for social justice, and was apparently a really bright guy, and student.

in regards to his profile, it's not impossible that an average joe can be a cop killer, but this guy just does NOT fit the profile at all. i cannot remember any cop being shot by a guy who did not have a significant record of violence.

While a massive memorial service for slain Officer Timothy Brenton neared its finish at KeyArena on Friday afternoon, fellow officers with the Seattle Police Department shot a man they believe to be responsible for Brenton's death...

King County sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart said three detectives confronted the man in the complex's parking lot and asked to speak with him. The man ran away, bolting up an exterior staircase where he turned, pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officers.

"For some reason, it didn't go off," said Urquhart.

The man then turned and ran again, with the detectives in close pursuit.

"They caught up to him after a relatively short distance, whereupon this individual turned again, presented the gun and was shot by the detectives," Urquhart said.

1. good, cant see if he was fatally shot, if not does WA have the death penalty for killing cops

he's in da hospital. WA does have the death penalty.

it's used, but we're more reserved about it than a lot of states.

recall that gary ridgway (green river killer) escaped the death penalty by agreeing to fess up to a bunch more murders, and show cops where the bodies were. the additional closure for all those families bought him a life sentence.

i'm still pretty surprised if this is the guy. this was a cold blooded assassination . car allegedly just pulled up and started shooting for no reason. and this guy just seems like a pretty average joe, a bright guy, and no red flags.

i've been out on disability for a few months for a shoulder injury and surgery.

thank god for our disability insurance (union got a great deal and a great plan for us, and we pay it through our union dues)

having a break and a chance to recharge, still dealing with the same asses from the gangs though, just different environment...

when i got out of college i looked at LAPD. they told me all deputies start out in the jail.

i was like... um... no thanks.

from the guys i work with who have worked in corrections, i think it does give them a good edge. they pick up a lot of stuff.

they pick up ex-cons quick. it's like radar. and they know all the slang, the gang symbols and tats, etc.

8. yup we do a lot of crossover, especially on the gang unit

its a good chance to work CIs and just to gather intell, also you get to sit for 13 hours and just shoot the breeze with the mutts, so you get a lot of education. lol your right i can pick up an ex con real easy, you can even tell if hes just finished hard time from the shuffle etc... i highly recommend working sometime inside just to further your crimdar...

LASO was the agency that requries deputies work the jail first

is the ability to work the jail setting as well as the road, i think it helps when you are talking to criminals, lol unfortunately for me i talk to everyone now like that, my wife says i swear an awful lot since i came back inside

14. rofl i turned up at a bat mitzvah dressed like a hustler and dropped the f bomb like 30 times

in less than 20 minutes before my wife pointed it out to me, but i know what you mean i was supervising a female block and they counted my f bombs and i had 179 in 3 hours and i wasnt even shouting at them just talking and giving orders.... the things we sacrifice for this job

10. Seems to me we have another case here where if the person didn't have easy access to firearms

the present tragedy at least would have been avoided.

even in a country like the UK, if someone really wants a gun they will get one.... id much rather that the citizens i serve have the ability to defend themselves from the idiots i see day in and day out as i know when they call for help i may be too far away to get there in time...
