2. It is a shame that the US press is ignoring these stories
America deeply needs to realize how complicated the end of the cold war was, and get off the 'reagan and rambo' line of analysis. It is really a shame how little exposure these anniversary stories are getting here compared to europe.

Instead, the pleasant fog of forgetting and myth-making takes the place of historical knowledge and remembering.

CNN's absolute peak was in 1989. For better or worse, the template that CNN created as far as '24 hour news' coverage was created and refined in that era.

looking back and realizing 'the real story' of the end of the cold war, and all that was missed in those days would put another huge hole in a 'news' industry that just doesnt and can't do what it pretends to do.
